On Varalakshmi Vratam married Hindu women perform pujas (devotions) to Varalakshmi, the goddess of wealth. The devotion ceremony consists of offering sacrifices of sweet foods, and reciting special prayers. In return, the goddess rewards their families with the three varams (blessings) of wealth, health, and knowledge. The custom is widely observed in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadua.
