United Nations Day
Also Known as UN Day
Observed October 24

People coming together at the UNUnited Nations Day is global observance set aside to honor the United Nations. It is observed by all member states in the United Nations. In some countries like Bolivia, it is a legal holiday, but in most countries, like the USA, Canada, and Mexico, it is just an observance.

It is traditional on UN Day for churches to ring their bells at 12 noon. The UN flag may be raised ceremoniously over public squares and buildings. In school, children may have special lessons about the United Nations.

The UN was founded on October 24, 1945. On October 31, 1947, the United Nations officially declared October 24 to be United Nations Day. The first observance was held in 1948.

Note: This holiday is one of Calendar Mine's over 500 built-in observances.
