Take Your Child to Work Day
Also Known as Take Your Daughter/Son to Work Day
Observed Fourth Thursday in April

Children at WorkTake Your Child to Work Day is a day in which parents get to take their children into the workplace. It provides an opportunity for children to be introduced to the world of work, and for them to find out what their parents do at work.

Not all employers participate in this event. For those that do, there is a lot of variation in its observance. Some companies may have the entire day planned out for the visiting children. Some hold special plant tours. Others may host fun and educational activities. Sometimes firms simply let the children assist their parents during the day. Employers may even pay the children wages for performing odd jobs in the workplace.

The observance was first held in 1993 and was called Take Our Daughters to Work Day. It was sponsored by the Ms. Foundation (a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting awareness of women's issues). The purpose of the observance was to expose teenage girls to career options, and to build their self-confidence. The observance was extremely well received. By the year 2000, over 25 million children participated in the event. Today many firms have expanded the observance to include sons as well as daughters.
