Armed Forces Day is a United States
observance dedicated to all of the Armed Forces, including the Army, Navy,
Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, and National Guard. On Armed Forces Day
military installations are open to the public for tours, air shows, or
exhibitions. Military exercises for the public may be held on land, air, or
sea.
Prior to 1950, each branch of the Armed Forces had its own
separate observance. In 1950, President Harry Truman combined them all into one
day, Armed Forces Day, to be held on the third Sunday in May. |
